Sunday’s service focused on the topic of love and its many dimensions. Briefly, love is God’s gift to us exemplified by the life and sacrifice of His only Son. It is meant for us to demonstrate this blessing in our daily lives. However, as Reverend Amjad shared it is too often “easier said than done.” Ego, personality conflicts and numerous other factors contribute to the difficulty. Yes, it is difficult, but necessary! God knows our dilemma and continually encourages us to go “beyond ourselves” to demonstrate His love.
A couple other thoughts shared by participants…..
- Our definition of love changes as we get older. Aging helps us appreciate how a small action can have a substantial impact on someone else if it reflects a true concern for them.
- Regardless of age, the reward for such outreach is substantial as we continually find ways to express God’s love.
As I reflect on The Table’s first year of operation, this theme of love dominates my thoughts. Our love is first and foremost, God based! Through our Shepherd’s leadership we have committed to seeking God’s guidance in how we interact with Him, fellow Table participants and the local community. The outcome to date:
- A thriving weekly community outreach effort with the help of First Baptist Church.
- Interactive, creative Sunday services as well as twice monthly Bible Study sessions
- The Blessing Box partnership with Grace Bible Church.
Yes, we are blessed but our work is not done! Let us use Jeremiah 29:11 as our guide in the coming days: “I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
