“When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.” John 11:43-44 NIV
For over 15 years, like Lazarus, I was bound and wrapped – not in grave clothes, but in addiction, depression, isolation and hopelessness. The enemy had me just where he wanted me! Alone and vulnerable, waiting to rob, steal and destroy me!
But even through all of this, God was still watching over me. He kept me safe despite me not acknowledging Him and turning my back on Him.
It was when I found a community of believers who took me into their fold that I started to learn the immense love that God has for us all! When God created us, we were never meant to be alone! Being in fellowship was and is crucial for my sobriety.
I remember the day that my “grave cloths” were removed! Such a burden was lifted off of my soul and I am able to see clearly again!
The road that God has us on might not always be easy, but He always goes before us, behind us and right next to us! We must always keep our eyes focused on Him and be in community with others where we can be encouraged, lifted up and do the same for others!
God bless you! Jen
